Today we traveled from Holbrook to Flagstaff. On the way we stopped at the Meteor Crater. This is the best preserved Meteorite Impact Site on Earth. Formed nearly 50,000 year ago by a giant meteor weighing several hundred thousand tons, this crater is 550 ft. deep, 2.4 miles in circumference and nearly one mile across. It is 35 miles east of Flagstaff. This is where all the Apollo Astronauts trained to walk on the moon, as the crater floor is very similar to that of the moon.
It was very interesting and Dirk and I wanted to do the Rim guided tour, which is about a mile, but the wind was once again so fierce that we decided it was too unpleasant and headed back to our RV.
We are in a KOA park in Flagstaff and it has large pine trees. We really feel deprived of trees, because we haven't had a park with trees for the last week.
